The King of Rock really did have a crown after all! That is, a dental crown. According to the Mirror, Elvis Presley’s denture molds fitted with his false tooth will be on display in the UK for the first time at Beacon Dental Care in Malvern, Worcestershire.
The King’s denture molds are owned by Michael Zuk, a Canadian dentist who bought them at auction in February 2012 for a whopping $11,000. This was not an unusual purchase for Zuk, who is also an author and obsessive collector of celebrity teeth.
The molds were made by Elvis Presley’s dentist Dr. Henry J. Weiss back in 1971. Dr. Zuk bought the molds along with five letters of authenticity verifying the molds belonged to the King of Pop, signed by the wife and sons of Presley’s dentist and also by Presley’s road manager.
But Elvis’ dentures won’t stop in Worcestershire; a dozen dentists will be hosting the King’s teeth in their office through the month of May. Each day the King’s teeth or on display will be known as ‘Elvis Day’ and it will be used to promote mouth cancer awareness. According to NME, “Each ‘Elvis Day’ will involve costumes, music and free mouth cancer screenings, according to the organisers.”
Owner Dr. Michael Zuk has sent the molds on this tour of the UK. His next project is to replicate the teeth of John Lennon by using DNA from the singer’s tooth, which Zuk also owns. Lennon’s tooth went on a similar tour of the UK that Presley’s teeth are about to embark on back in 2012, visiting 16 different dental offices along the way.
